The Western Racing in Road Racing & Sprint Racing Directory

The WRA is a nonprofit corporation, dedicated to the preservation of antique automobile racing cars and fellowship. Most of the active members have been involved in racing for many years and were part of the heyday of the mighty midgets that raced at tracks throughout the country.WRA cars are vintage racecars without roll cages and sporting narrow tires that raced in the 1930s, ‘40s and ‘50s. They are powered by the same Ford passenger car V860 Flathead engines of 19371940, the famous fourcylinder MeyerDrake Offenhauser racing engines that dominated midget racing from 1937 to 1962, Model “A” and “B” Ford conversions engines that used castor oil in their gas before modern day alcohol was available, and an occasional Ferguson, Studebaker or other historic engine. Many of these cars are restored Kurtis Kraft racers, the premier choice of openwheel midget car collectors.
