In late 1995, Danny Kellermeyer, of Ortonville, Michigan, long time racer with the Corvette Challenge Series of the late 1980’s, met with Chicago area racer Dave Wiehle, owner of Melrose TTops, to discuss creating a race series specifically for Corvettes. Danny and Dave set the objectives for the series to be affordable to a wide audience of participants, one which would deliver close competition by focusing on the abilities of the driver, not the car.They identified about 30 C4 Corvettes that were racing in the Illinois, Michigan and Pennsylvania areas. They contacted these owners with most agreeing to participate in the series if it was established. Mid America Designs, Inc. of Effingham, Illinois was asked and agreed to provide sponsorship support for the new C4 series. The series was named the Mid America Touring Challenge for Corvettes, TCC for short.
